ALS signed “J. A. Garfield,” one page, 7.5 x 9.75, August 24, 1869. Garfield writes to Henry Villard in Boston. In part: “In the few days that will elapse before the political campaign in this state opens in earnest, I shall try to do something towards working up our materials for the Bill and Report in reference to the next Caucus…. I hope you will be able to send [your paper] to me soon, as I want to block out the whole report in the first half of September.” A touch of subtle soiling, a few mild wrinkles and short edge tear (touching one word), and light mailing fold touching signature, otherwise fine, bright condition. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
