Spinach Power: Original drawing of the funny pages’ favorite strongman sailor

Legendary American cartoonist (1895–1962) best known as the creator of Popeye. Original drawing of Popeye punching out a man, captioned “Ahoy, Pal—If Ya Got any Emenies, Jus’ Let Me Know!,” ink on cardstock, 3.5 x 6.25, signed and inscribed, “Regards to Billy, Tommy & Dan Bates Jr., Yours to the last ash! Segar,” the artist adding his trademark cigar sketch. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from the son of the original owner, who explains that a friend of his father’s was a colleague of Segar’s at the New York Journal-American. In very good condition, with light scattered soiling and staining. R&R COA.
