Former British intelligence officer (1908–1964) whose novels featuring suave spy James Bond have attained unprecedented and seemingly indestructible popularity in more than twenty film adaptations over the course of four decades. Amusing TLS, one page, 8 x 10, personal letterhead, July 3, 1963. Fleming responds to a critical fan in Florida. In full: “Thank you very much for your letter of June 27th and for the long list of corrections. I am afraid you will find that I make mistakes in all my books and I can only plead that Shakespeare was equally remiss and that Jane Austen once had cherry trees flowering in September!” The letter is dry-mounted to a same-sized piece of foamcore. In fine condition overall, with mounting as noted, intersecting mailing folds, two small marginal adhesive remnants, and light toning from previous framing. The signature is bold and dark. Auction LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
