Distinguished American cartoonist (1876–1962) who twice won the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning and who created the design for the first Federal Duck Stamp in 1934. Striking original artwork for a one-panel political cartoon, a satirical jazz-and-blues-themed image of the GOP elephant and political figures LaFollette, Brookhart, Frazier, and Borah, ink and wash on illustration board, 29.75 x 20.25, signed at lower left, “J. N. Darling ’22.” A pencil notation on the front states “For Review of Reviews”; the reverse bears the label of the Collier’s art department. In very good condition, with light even toning and a hint of soiling, marginal pinholes and small losses at corners (well away from image), adhesive remnants and usual editorial markings to margins, and a few spots of skinning at extreme edges of image. The image itself is generally clean and well preserved, and, properly framed and matted, will make a most handsome presentation. R&R COA.
