American cartoonist (1905–1982) best known for his long-running strip Nancy. Bushmiller’s clean, quintessentially “cartoony” style was an important influence on scores of modern artists, including such aesthetically divergent notables as Bill Griffith, Chris Ware, and Ray Johnson. Original artwork for a daily Nancy strip featuring a wackily resourceful Nancy at the beach, ink on artist’s cardstock, 19 x 5.25, August 13, 1951, signed in the final panel, “Ernie Bushmiller.” Matted and framed to an overall size of 22.75 x 9.25.
