Confederate brigadier general (1833–1864) who was killed at the Battle of Opequon. He was the grandfather of the famed World War II general of the same name. Two items: ALS, signed “G. S. Patton,” one lightly lined page, 4.75 x 7.75, January 30, 1860, requesting that his cousin, Andrew, inquire about steamship fares; and a lengthy ALS from Patton’s wife to him, signed “S[usan] G[lassell] P.,” one lightly lined page both sides (one side cross-written), 7.75 x 9.75, Febrary 19, 1863, sending news of family and an upcoming move, and mentioning the family Bible.
