Description

Basketball Hall of Fame’s shortest member

Created, owned and coached the Harlem Globetrotters, spreading basketball and goodwill all over the world for 40 years. He established an impressive won-loss record, but the games were often lopsided and dull. In order to keep fans interested, Saperstein began adding a little horseplay and light-hearted fun to each game. Fans everywhere loved this new brand of amusing basketball. Although most noted for their on-the-court pranks, the Globetrotters proved they could also compete with the best teams of the era. In 1940, they won the World Professional title against the Chicago Bruins, and in the same year, played a famous series with the George Mikan-led Minneapolis Lakers. Vintage glossy 8 x 10 photo, signed and inscribed in black ink “To my pal Leon, Cordially, Abe Saperstein.” Some scattered light surface marks and creases and a small label affixed to reverse, otherwise fine condition. LOA Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
