One of the greatest female athletes of all time, she was an All-American basketball player, an All-Star track and field athlete and a fine golfer. TLS signed “M. Zaharias,” one page, 6.5 x 7.5, December 16, 1947. Letter typed on the reverse of a youngster’s letter to Zaharias regarding her awards. In full, “Received your nice letter and was indeed glad to hear from you. I have won 86 good size trophies and around 300 medals all gold. I also hope that they will let me play in the National Open, but I will just have to wait until I hear from them. Thanks again for your letter. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you.” Signed at the conclusion in black ink by Zaharias, who adds a large second signature along the bottom, “Mildred ‘Babe’ Zaharias.” Trimmed lower edge, light show-through from youngster’s text on reverse, a bit of mild toning to top edge, and mailing fold bisecting first signature, otherwise fine condition.
