Prolific American author of westerns, including such classics as Hondo and How the West Was Won. TLS on the inside of a greeting card, one page, 7 x 10, September 6, 1981. Letter of thanks to an admirer, updating him on his latest research. In part, “As for being a great American, I hope I am and I hope I always will be. You can do the same…(One of the reasons I do not have much time is that I do a lot of on the ground research. I have just returned from a lost canyon in Utah where the Indians used to be long ago but people had forgotten about it or never did know. I had to go in with a helicopter. There is a trail but we haven’t found it yet. There were old cliff dwellings, pottery from the period 1175 to 1250 and some Navajo hogans from a period of about 100 yrs ago. We saw the tracks of a big mountain lion, also, large as a saucer.)” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope. In fine condition. R&R COA.
