Union general (1831–1888) whose cavalry command blocked Lee’s escape at Appomattox. DS, signed “P. H. Sheridan,” one page, 3.25 x 2.75, Headquarters, Military Division of the Gulf letterhead, March 6, 1866. Partial self-contained document reading, “Respectfully returned to the Adjutant General of the Army,” and signed underneath by Sheridan, with his rank added underneath in another hand. Double matted with a photo of Sheridan in uniform, to an overall size of 9 x 14. In very good condition, with scattered light toning over signature, received stamp to lower left and signature a shade light. R&R COA.
