Description

Red China versus the World: Striking Cold War–era political cartoon from a Pulitzer Prize winner

American cartoonist (1903–1963) who won the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning in 1946. Original artwork for a one-panel political cartoon titled “Aladdin and the Not-So-Wonderful Lamp,” depicting a spectral Red Chinese soldier looming over a personified United Nations as he emerges from a genie lamp titled “Korean Victories,” ink and crayon on textured artist’s cardstock, 16.5 x 22, late 1940s–early 1950s, signed in ink at lower right, “Bruce Russell.” Usual touch-ups with artist’s white-out, editorial notations to margins, and a touch of mild toning and soiling, otherwise fine condition. Tremendous display potential! R&R COA.
