Union general (1826–1885) removed from command by Lincoln for his failure to exert pressure on Lee’s army during the crucial Peninsula Campaign. He ran unsuccessfully for the presidency in 1864 and later served as Governor of New Jersey. Ink signature, “Very truly yours, Geo. B. McClellan,” on an off-white lined slip, dated March 23, 1871. Matted with a dignified portrait of McClellan in uniform, to an overall size of 8 x 12. Some scattered light soiling, horizontal fold between signature and sentiment and light show-through from ink on reverse, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
