Self-contained partial DS, signed “G. A. Custer,” one page, 3.75 x 1.5, no date. Partial document, being the signature portion of a Special Requisition form, from “Company ‘K’ 7th Cav. Fort Rice, D. T.,” which is written in another hand, and signed by Custer underneath. Document is affixed to an identical size card. Forts Randall and Sully were the only military posts on the upper Missouri when Fort Rice was built in 1864 as one of a series of new forts established on the northern plains between 1863 and 1866. Intended to protect travel on land and river and to control the Sioux, it was built while General Alfred Sully marched against the Sioux west of the Missouri River. A couple trivial brushes to text at top, otherwise clean and very fine condition. Custer’s signature is quite prominent, combined with a 7th Cavalry association makes this an impressive and affordable Custer item. LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
