Letter to a gentleman concerning a request for a government appointment, with the candidate’s name clipped out of the text in three locations. In part, “I am enclosing you herewith a letter from one of the [removed], making a very strong appeal for appointment to a government position, I do not happen to remember any of the men of the family, except [removed]. Manifestly, this letter is not from a woman and I should like to know who it is that is writing, and what possible obligations may be associated therewith.” In very good condition, with aforementioned clipped text, scattered light toning and foxing, heavier area of staining to top left corner and light pencil notations.
