Description

Champion of privacy and free speech

Associate Justice of the Supreme Court (1856–1941) from 1916 to 1939. Impressive vintage matte-finish 9.75 x 13.75 Harris & Ewing photo of a seated Brandeis in his judicial robe, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To Claude R. Branch with best wishes, Louis D. Brandeis, May 3, 1932.” The original recipient, Claude R. Branch, was a government lawyer who presented a number of cases before the Supreme Court in the 1930s and later became a judge. Please note that the color gradation bordering the image is original to the printing of the photo and is not the result of toning. A touch of subtle toning to perimeter and small spot of skinning to bottom edge (well away from image), and the subtlest suggestion of silvering to dark areas, otherwise fine, crisp, bright condition. R&R COA.
