Description

Chip off the old bloc? Colorful “order” from Stalin’s daughter, signed by her dictator dad

Scarce and unusual manuscript DS, one page, 4.5 x 6.25, November 3, 1934. A fascinating relic of Stalin’s family life, a gaily colored “document” handwritten by his daughter, Setanka, which reads, in part: “Top Secret: Order No. 4. Order you to permit me to go at 5 P.M. and stay 3 days November 6th, 7th, 8th in Lipki. [Signed] Setanka, the owner,” Setanka adding her hand-drawn “seal.” Stalin has added his name in pencil at the top of the page, “Comrade I. Stalin,” and indicates his approval in red pencil at the bottom: “Allowed. Secretary of Setanka, Stalin.” Small chip and pinholes to top edge (the latter slightly touching Stalin’s first initial), small clipped hole to center of sheet, and one light mailing fold touching Stalin’s inscription at bottom, otherwise fine condition. A remarkable relic from one of the most murderous figures in the history of civilization! LOA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
