Perhaps best remembered for her role in Jean-Luc Godard's seminal New Wave classic Breathless, Iowa-born Jean Seberg (1938–1979) was found dead at the age of forty from a probable suicide by barbiturate overdose. Her support of the Black Panthers attracted the attention of the FBI, leading some to speculate that her radical political ties may have contributed to her decision to take her life. Uncommon vintage sepia glossy 8 x 10 United Artists publicity photo of the smiling young actress, copyright 1956, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To Mme. M., et Jean Engstrom—Merci beaucoup (et pour le vin, aussi!), Jean Seberg.” In fair condition, with creases, scratches and a few small spots of skinning, and edge tears, mostly confined to margins. The writing is dark and mostly unaffected. Signed Seberg photos of this size are quite elusive. R&R COA.
