Extraordinary lot of five items, circa 1963–65: 1) ALS signed “Love from John Lennon, XXX,” one page on an unfolded envelope, 5.5 x 9, no date. Lennon writes to Bridget. In full: “Thanks for your letter and photo. As you see I have no paper. See you soon I hope.” Also included is the original envelope, which bears the initials “JB” drawn by Lennon with the addition of whimsical “antennae.” 2) ALS signed “Love, Paul McCartney, XXX,” one lightly lined page, 5 x 8, no date. McCartney writes to Angie. In full: “Thanks for the letter. Sorry I haven’t got time to answer your question. Will be back next week. Ta-ta then!” 3) Unsigned note in McCartney’s hand on a tan 3.75 x 2.75 slip, no date. McCartney writes to “B,” evidently the same Bridget as in John’s letter. In full: “Ta for the letter!!,” Paul adding “antennae” to the B. 4) ALS signed “Lots of love from George Harrison, XXXXXX,” one page, 7 x 5.5, no date. Harrison writes from Hamburg to Carol. In full: “Many thanks for the letter and ‘lovely’ photographs of us at the Majestic. You were right ... I hadn’t seen them before and I usually see them all! If you can send along the others sometime we’d love to see them. By the way, John says hello and thanks for his photo and card. Maybe next time you’ll send him his hat!! Just kidding! [this last phrase in square brackets]. Sorry for such a short letter Carol. It’s late here, we’ve been playing quite a bit and we’re all very tired. I promise to write again soon. Hope to see you when we get back home.” After signing, Harrison adds a postscript: “Paul and Ringo say hello too!” 5) ALS signed “Love from Ringo Starr, XXX,” one page on a 6 x 5 sheet with affixed newspaper photo, no date. Ringo writes to Angie. In full: “Thanks for the letter. Sorry we missed you and hope to see you soon.” All five items are framed together with an unsigned color magazine or program photo to an overall size of 24.5 x 34.5. In fine condition overall, with mailing folds touching Harrison’s and Starr’s signatures, light wrinkling to Starr letter, a hint of mild soiling and trimmed edges to McCartney letter (not affecting writing), and some light wrinkling, soiling, and faint staining to Lennon letter, mostly confined to blank portions. Correspondence from this earliest stage of the Beatles’ career is uncommon and highly prized! Oversized. LOA Roger Epperson/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
