Rockabilly rebel: “The movie I am in called ‘Untamed Youth’ is being released this month”

Dynamic, pioneering rock ’n’ roll musician (1938–1960), best known for his hit “Summertime Blues,” who met his untimely end in a fatal automobile crash at the age of twenty-two. TLS, one page, 8.5 x 11, April 11, 1957. Cochran writes to Bob Bollinger, a fan. In part: “I really appreciate all the interest my fans are taking in me. I would be very proud to have you join one of my fan clubs…. Could you send me a snapshot or school picture of yourself to put in my scrap book? I am interested in all my fans. The movie I am in called ‘Untamed Youth’ is being released this month. Hope all my fans get to see it. I will be making a new record next week and I’ll let all my fans know when it is to be released. I will also be appearing in Philadelphia next week.” Untamed Youth, the cotton-growing-and-girl-convict musical in which Cochran co-starred with Mamie Van Doren (who performed four songs to his one!), is now recognized as an utterly ridiculous—but thoroughly fun—camp classic. Crease to one corner and one mailing fold touching signature, otherwise fine, crisp condition. R&R COA.
