Greeting the new century as schoolmaster

Italian composer (1863–1945) whose 1890 masterpiece Cavalleria Rusticana takes a place among the most durable and beloved staples of the operatic repertoire. Student’s rule and grade book from the Liceo Musicale Rossini in Pesaro Italy, hardcover, 5 x 7.25, circa 1900, signed on the title page, “P. Mascagni.” In his will, the great composer Rossini had left his estate to the city of Pesaro for the purpose of establishing a music school, where Mascagni served as director from 1895 to 1902. The present volume includes the printed rules of the school and the handwritten grades and other notations (including the date January 1, 1900) of the original owner/student. In very good condition, with wear to covers, several pages removed from rear portion, and mild scattered soiling. The signature itself is bold and dark. R&R COA.
