Pioneering African-American musician (1873–1958), known as the “Father of the Blues,” who wrote such hits as “Memphis Blues” and “St. Louis Blues.” TLS signed “W. C. Handy,” one page, 8.5 x 11 (affixed to another sheet), business letterhead, May 17, 1932. Handy writes to Mr. Romye. In full: “Many thanks for your letter relative to Miller & Lyles. I met Mr. MiIler today and he mentioned the matter to me, and since we are old friends, some good should come from this contact, for which I have you to thank.” In very good condition, with tear to blank top margin, a few light stains, and partial separations along folds (one fold lightly touching signature).
