ALS signed “John G. Whittier,” one page, 5 x 7.75, June 1, 1862. Interesting letter of response to a previous message. In full, “An invalid myself, I can fully understand & sympathize with thee in thy affliction. With the hope that we may both be enabled to do something more for our country & mankind.” In fine condition, with light toning and rippling to horizontal edges from mounting remnants on reverse.
