Description

Just five months before his passing, Ruth sends a preview copy of his story to Walter Winchell

TLS signed “Babe,” one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, April 12, 1948. Letter written to Walter Winchell at the Daily Mirror. In full, “I am sending you a copy of my own book The Babe Ruth Story which Bob Considine helped me to put down on paper. My publishers tell me it will be published on April 26, 1948. I hope you will like it.” In very fine condition, with a mailing fold slightly touching tops of two letters in signature, and evidence of erased pencil notations above the salutation. Absolutely pristine with a wonderful reference to Babe’s biography, which would also go on to become a motion picture, starring William Bendix as Ruth. The film was rushed for release while Babe Ruth himself was still alive, which is why the movie ends the way it does. Ruth died shortly after the premiere, which he attended in his last public appearance. COA Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
