Mexican general and politician. Santa Anna is one of the most interesting figures in Mexican political history, having been president–dictator of Mexico some ten times during his career. He is best known in the US for his slaughter of many Americans at the Alamo. LS in Spanish, signed “Ant. López de Santa Anna,” one page, 8.25 x 6, June 27, 1825. Letter addressed to “The extraordinary Envoy & Minister Plenipotentiary of the United States of America.” In full (translated), “I have received your note inviting me to join you for dinner in celebration of the anniversary of the Independence of those same states and in reply thereunto I declare to you that I shall have the high honor of appearing personally to celebrate such a pleasing and solemn day.” In very good condition, with intersecting folds and scattered moderate foxing, not detracting from Santa Anna’s bold signature.
