Scottish novelist and poet (1771–1832) best known for such classics as Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, and Waverley. ALS signed “Walter Scott,” one page, 7.25 x 8.75, no date [postmarked May 14, 1830]. Scott writes to bookseller Charles Till in Fleet Street. In full: “I have very ungraciously left unacknowledged your present of the landscape illustrations of Waverley. I pretend to no knowledge of art so my opinion ought to go for nothing. But I think they are very beautiful and sincerely hope they will answer the purpose of the artists and publishers.” The letter retains the integral address leaf with wax seal remnants.
