Business check, 8.5 x 3, filled out in another hand and signed by Edison, payable to John W. Small for $4.00, August 14, 1928. The memo field indicates that Edison purchased a book. Small has signed the check over to John K. Small (evidently a relative), a prominent botanist who wrote extensively on the plants of Florida, who has also endorsed. Given that Edison had a laboratory in Fort Myers and experimented extensively with plants, mainly in pursuit of a substitute for rubber, it seems virtually certain that the purchase was directly related to his own research. In fine condition, with light vertical folds (one through signature) and punch cancellation just touching “umbrella” of signature. R&R COA.
