Distinguished British poet (1809–1892) who was one of the most highly regarded and influential literary figures of the Victorian era. Striking 4.25 x 6.5 Elliott & Fry cabinet photo, a seated portrait of the poet holding a wide-brimmed hat, signed in ink on the mount, “Tennyson.” On the reverse of the mount, Tennyson has also written, “not a very good photograph”—an observation with which most collectors would strongly disagree! In fine condition, with mild toning, a few tiny, unobtrusive spots of skinning to mount (well away from signature), and scattered pinpoint-sized flaws to negative which do not detract in the least.
