In 1884, Captain Dreyfus of France was accused of selling military secrets to Germany. He was convicted and sentenced to life in prison, but in 1886 new evidence surfaced that seemed to exonerate Dreyfus. The military tried to suppress the information and failed, and the case became a political firestorm. DS, in French, signed “A. Dreyfus,” one page, 8.75 x 3, December 10, 1917. Closing portion of a military document, signed at the conclusion in black ink by Dreyfus. Bisecting vertical fold, light show through from lines on reverse and a slight brush to end of signature, otherwise fine condition. R&R COA.
