Patton writes to “Papa.” In part: "I have been back to duty a week now and it is much better than being in the Hospital. K. Ayer[?] came up to the game yesterday and I had a nice time though she could not stay…. She is a very nice girl and very well raised. I had asked Kate Fowler … but she could not come. Aunt Mamie was here today and she said that Kate was worth in her own name forty million how much is B worth…. We played a great game yesterday it was fine but Mr. Dean got his knee put out and may be out of it I hope not Mr. Daehr[?] and Mr. Guble played well…. There are three officers in the post with auto mobiles and each of them got it for marrying a rich girl so it is clearly up to me. B seems to like the cavalry but the promotion is hellish slow….” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in Patton’s hand.
