A Signer signs a decade before the Declaration of Independence

Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Massachusetts and lawyer who served as one of the prosecutors of British soldiers during the Boston Massacre trial. Partially printed DS, signed “Rob. Treat Paine,” one page, 7.5 x 6.75, March 3, 1766. A legal document, signed by Paine as justice of the peace, authorizing the sheriff of Norton, Bristol County, Massachusetts, to attach “the goods or estate” of Joseph Linkon for the amount of thirty shillings. In good condition, with toning and a few adhesive stains, folds (separations, including one through signature, tape-repaired from reverse), a few small holes, and chips to edges, the signature nonetheless remaining bold and dark.
