Signed and inscribed on the front free end page, “For Elaine Clouse, Sincerely, Thomas Wolfe, June 13, 1938.” The consignor notes that Clouse was a Portland schoolteacher and avid admirer of Wolfe’s. The writer had departed New York City in late May 1938, arriving in Portland on June 7 and beginning an auto tour of national parks on June 20th. He passed away on September 15.
