TLS, one page, 5.75 x 8, American Red Cross letterhead, December 10, 1913. Letter to Colonel William Cary Sanger. In part, “On the recommendation of the Central Committee of the American Red Cross I hereby appoint you a member of the War Relief Board.” Sanger was a West Point graduate who served during the Indian Wars and ultimately attained the rank of Lt. Colonel and commanded the 201st New York Regiment in the Spanish-American War. In 1901 he was appointed Ass't. Secretary of War by his close friend and comrade, President Theodore Roosevelt.
