Description

Oscar winner Magnani writes from the set of one of her last films

Italian actress (1908–1973) who won an Academy Award for her role in the 1955 film The Rose Tattoo. ALS signed “Anna,” one onionskin page, 8.25 x 11, March 5, 1970. Magnani writes to Giovanella. In part (translated): “Please contract the organizers of this demonstration [Gala de l”union des Artistes in Paris], who make the same request every year, and tell them that it is absolutely impossible for me to participate…. I am here at work … with the director Giannette—scenario meetings, etc…. or please provide the most convenient ‘reason.’” Magnani was evidently in the midst of making her second-to-last film, the political drama Correva l’Anno di Grazia, directed by Alfredo Giannetti and released in 1971. In fine condition, with usual mailing folds, filing holes and vertical crease to left margin, and staple holes with small rust stain. R&R COA.
