Scarce printed membership card for the Top Rank Sunday Dancing Club at the Majestic Ballroom in Newcastle, 3.5 x 2.25, signed on the reverse in black ballpoint, “love Paul McCartney, XXX,” in blue ballpoint, “John Lennon XX” and “Ringo Starr, XXX,” and in red ballpoint, “George Harrison, X.” Top Rank, Britain’s premiere entertainment organization of the era, owned twenty-eight ballrooms. The Beatles played in twelve of Top Rank’s venues in 1963 and never again performed in any of them, lending special interest to the present item as a relic from the earliest days (with Ringo as drummer) of the Beatles’ career. The printed side of the card is filled out with the name of the original holder, B. Goodfellow, and dated July 1, 1962. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from noted Beatles expert Frank Caiazzo, who dates the signatures to early 1963. In fair condition, with heavy creasing (short separations slightly touching Paul’s and George’s signatures), toning, soiling with a few small spots, and edge wear, the signatures nonetheless remaining clear and dark.
