Handwritten manuscript on five pages, three measuring 8.5 x 11, one measuring 7 x 11 and one large slip, entitled Truth In Music, signed at the top of the first page, “M. J.” A very interesting look at Jackson’s philosophical view on how musicians create music. In small part: “Music is the compilation of different sounds in rhythm through feeling…Every field of endeavor has a model of truth to use as a standard…[the musician] portrays according to what has touched him deeply, according to what has left a subcutaneous scar. So he can pull from the truth…He uses truth, everyday life is his truth… What does the musician use as his model of truth, what?…SOUNDS. Everyday sounds around you…From the sound of the pencil marking the paper to the washing machine behind that’s keeping a constant rhythm to the sound of mother cutting the paper with scissors to little baby pretending to be a jetplane. The compiling of these different sounds together creates music. [The musician] is determined with fire to get exactly what he hears in his head…if you can hear it in your head then it is possible to transfer it to reality…If a pencil writing on paper can truly really make the sound of a pencil on paper, then what’s in my head can reproduce itself and truly make the sound of what it is.” Impressively matted and framed with a 10 x 8 photo of Jackson in the video for Bad, signed in black felt tip, to an overall size of 28 x 50. Rough edges to last page and overall light toning to fourth page, otherwise fine condition. PSA/DNA COA and R&R COA. Oversized.
