Nazi who saved hundreds of Jews

Head of the German military intelligence service, the Abwehr, during World War II. An ardent opponent of Hitler who saved hundreds of Jews from persecution, Canaris was court-martialed by the SS and executed by strangulation at the Flossenbürg concentration camp. ALS, signed “Canaris,” one page, 5.75 x 7.5, Albergo Palazzo Ambasciatori letterhead, no date. Canaris extends a dinner invitation to naval medical officer Gustav Thermann and his wife in Munich a few days hence. In fine condition, with one mailing fold. R&R COA.
