Lot of two items: TLS, signed “John Wayne,” one page, 6 x 8, personal letterhead, February 8, 1977. Wayne writes to Susanna McBrayne. In full: “Thank you for your efforts. It is pretty hard for me to hang pictures of myself around. I certainly appreciate your thoughtfulness though. I’ll offer it to one of my children; maybe they will hang it instead of me. Have a happy and pleasant year.” Also included is an ALS from John Ford, signed “Pappy,” one page on the correspondence side of a 5.5 x 3.5 postcard, no date [postmarked August 9, 1957]. Ford writes to family friend and script supervisor Meta Sterne. In full: “Still marking time—‘Don’t worry, any day now.’ Going nutz [sic]. Well, I asked for it.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope for Wayne letter and two unsigned photos. In fine condition, with usual fold (associated marginal edge separation) and toning from previous framing to Wayne letter, and mild soiling and postal handling wear to Ford postcard. R&R COA.
