Partially printed DS signed as president, one page on vellum, 11 x 7.75, November 17, 1847. A warrant appointing Lewis Cass Sawyer midshipman in the Navy “to continue in force during the pleasure of the President of the United States.” American naval appointments of this era are rather less common than those for other branches of the military. In very good condition, with usual folds (one through signature), mild wrinkling, light toning, a few tears (tape-repaired on reverse), small loss to one corner, and signature somewhat rubbed and light but fully legible, the document nonetheless maintaining a clean, attractive appearance overall. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
