The Grants visit West Point

ALS, three pages on two adjoining lined sheets, 5 x 8, Head-Quarters Armies of the United States letterhead, July 3, 1866. Letter to General Cullum, Superintendant of the West Point Military Academy, accepting a lodging invitation. In part, “It would be very much more pleasant for me to be at a private house than at a crowded hotel and I will gladly accept the invitation if my family will not be too large for you to accommodate. Mrs. Grant and three children will be with me. If this is too much of a good thing please don’t hesitate about saying so.” Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Grant’s hand. In fine condition, with expected folds and a touch of minor soiling. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
