Description

Less than a month after bidding farewell to baseball on Babe Ruth Day, The Bambino signs a photo for a fan

Vintage matte-finish 6 x 8 photo of Ruth taking a practice swing as photographers look on, signed and inscribed in green fountain pen “To Anita Carnsqir From Babe Ruth 5-22-1947.” On April 27, 1947, Babe Ruth said goodbye to his home town fans in a poignant ceremony at Yankee Stadium. Wearing a topcoat and hat, the visibly weakened Ruth spoke briefly to thank the fans of New York, in what would be his second to last appearance at Yankee Stadium. Photo has been affixed to a 8.75 x 10.5 piece of heavy cardstock and matted to an identical size. In very good condition, with trimmed edges, taking off most of the first word of inscription, small area of edge loss to bottom, small hole to right edge and a few light edge and corner creases. Most of the flaws are not visible matted, improving the visual quality of the photo. COA Steve Grad/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
