Description

Armstrong becomes the first freeman of Langholm, Scotland, where, by an old law, the Chief Magistrate is authorized to hang any Armstrong found in the town

Original program from the March 11, 1972, Conferment of the Freedom of the Burgh presented to Armstrong in Langholm, Scotland, “in recognition for his outstanding achievements in the exploration of space.” Nicely signed on the cover in black felt tip by Armstrong. In 1972, Armstrong was welcomed into the town of Langholm, Scotland. It was the traditional seat of Clan Armstrong and the astronaut was made the first freeman of the burgh. He happily declared the town his home. The Chief Magistrate read from an unrepealed 400 year old law that required him to hang any Armstrong found in the town. In fine condition, with some moderate edge toning to both covers, lightly affecting beginning portion of signature. COA Scott Cornish and R&R COA.
