The inventor of the “Rocket” throws in the towel: “I shall have to give it up, it is too complicated a case”

Eminent British engineer (1781–1848), known as the Father of British Steam Railways, who invented a pioneering steam locomotive known as the “Rocket.” ALS signed “Geo. Stephenson,” one page, 7.25 x 9, October 10, 1847. Stephenson writes regarding a legal case. In full: “I send you the damages sent to me of Hall’s property—there must be something very wrong in the statement made out. Let me see you here. I shall have to give it up, it is too complicated a case. Sanders should see it.” In fine condition, with usual mailing folds. R&R COA.
