Claimant of the thrones of Scotland and England (1688–1766); his Jacobite supporters referred to him as James III of England and VIII of Scotland, while others dismissed him as the “Old Pretender.” LS, in French, signed “Jacques R,” one page, 7.75 x 8, January 31, 1761. James writes to an unidentified cousin, sending thanks for a Christmas greeting and expressing good wishes. The red wax seal remains intact at lower left.
