Description

Opening-day ticket to Disneyland, signed just hours into the day by the man himself

Lot of three items: pencil signature, “Walt Disney,” on a 4 x 2.25 complimentary Disneyland ticket date-stamped July 18, 1955. Also included: unsigned first issue (Volume I, No. 1) of the Disneyland News, the newspaper-type “Official Publication of Disneyland, California,” with a headline that reads, “50,000 Attend Gala Park Opening”; and an unsigned illustrated 1955 booklet titled “The Story of Disneyland.” Though a select group of guests had been invited to the dedication on the previous day, it was on July 18 that the gates were first thrown open for the public, ushering in the era of the mega-blockbuster tourist destination. The first page of the Disneyland News has been matted to an overall size of 13.5 x 18.25. Accompanied by a newspaper clipping describing the original owner’s visit to Disneyland and close encounter with Disney. The signature, which is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Phil Sears, is in fair condition, with glossy surface resulting in a very light signature, soiling, creasing, losses to two corners (not affecting signature), and two small holes. Though the visual appeal of this item is obviously short of optimal, the significant date grants this example a cachet shared by very few others. The Disneyland News is in very good condition, with expected toning, cover separated from remainder as noted above, and some marginal chips and tears; the booklet is clean, bright, and fine. PSA/DNA COA and R&R COA.
