Revolutionary War-dated letter from Huntington, squaring a debt which “escaped my mind”

A member of the Continental Congress, he was a Signer of the Declaration of Independence and presided over Congress when the Articles of Confederation were adopted. ALS signed “Saml Huntington,” one page, 8 x 13.5, January 24, 1778. War-dated letter written while serving as a Connecticut Supreme Court Justice. In part, “Sometime passed I conversed with Commissary [Joseph] Trumbull, & He told me I need to give my self no Trouble about the Barrel of pork which I receiv’d…by your Consent, but only pay the money therefor to you: I’d figured to have paid it before I left home but it escaped my mind thro’ hurry of business: If you will please to call on Mrs. Huntington - she will pay the money, as I have wrote her for that purpose.” Reverse bears an integral address panel, in Huntington’s hand, to “Mr. Andrew Huntington, Norwich.” In very good condition, with small square of paper loss affecting a single word of text, moderate folds, mild toning a few small areas of paper loss at junction of folds and a few light pencil notations.
