Description

Crumb waxes eloquent on his favorite subject matter: “Jewish girls with big thighs looking foolish in photos is definitely ‘up my alley!’”

Iconic cartoonist who created the classic underground “comix” Zap (1967) and Snatch (1968), featuring the overtly sexual escapades of Mr. Natural, the grotesquely voluptuous Angelfood McSpade, and many others. His comic series, Fritz The Cat, was made into an X-rated animated feature in 1972. ALS signed “R. Crumb,” one page, 6 x 9, June 20, 1983. A chatty letter to fellow cartoonist Clay Wilson. In part: “I’ve gotten myself involved with this art gallery in San Francisco called ‘Modernism.’ They want to be ‘my’ gallery…. I don’t know what to make of these people or their big talk about building me a ‘rep’ in the big-time art scene. My instincts are that they’re full of shit. I took Terry Zwigoff up there. He calls them ‘cake eaters from Mars.’ That guy George Lucas musta looked at your comics to get some of his ideas for the first half of his new Star Wars epic. Sheck eet out, mon! What advice can you give me concerning this gallery bullshit?… Aline got the book that has the photo you put on your postcard. It’s basically a satire on Jane Fonda’s work-out book. Dum book but Jewish girls with big thighs looking foolish in photos is definitely ‘up my alley!’” Terry Zwigoff, Crumb’s brother-in-law, directed the award-winning 1994 documentary Crumb. In fine condition. COA John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and R&R COA.
