Description

??? - - - ??? from Katharine Lee Bates

Educator and poet who wrote the lyrics to the iconic patriotic song “America the Beautiful.” TLS, one page, 5.5 x 8.5, Wellesley College letterhead, August 4, 1924. Bates writes to Mrs. Fred Wilson. In part: “The college is making ready to observe its Semi-Centennial [handwritten addition: “a leading feature of the celebration being”] a pageant written by Mrs. Marie Warren Potter of New York. She has a very beautiful theme, but has been delayed in her work by the long continued illness of her mother; so that we are sending out a SOS call to our most competent alumnae. Miss Katharine Jones tells me that you would be a wonderful chairman for the Costuming Committee.” In fine, crisp condition, with usual mailing folds and a few trivial wrinkles. R&R COA.
