Familiar character actor who appeared in hundreds of films and invented the folding theater seat! His other inventions included hand fire extinguishers and greaseless potato chips. He had hoped for a career in opera, but when that didn’t work out, he hit the movies. Hale's best known role is probably in The Adventures of Robin Hood one of several films he made with his close friend Errol Flynn, in which he played Little John, a role he played in two other films, Robin Hood (1922) and Rogues of Sherwood Forest (1950).
