Legendary editorial cartoonist and conservation activist. Lot of four items: an original hand-inked sketch of a fisherman landing a whopper of a fish, on an off-white 5 x 3 page, signed in the lower left corner “Ding”; an ink signature and inscription, “To Arthur L. Howard, with best wishes of J. N. Darling alias ‘Ding’”; a one page TLS, dated July 12, 1944, on his personal letterhead, apologizing for not being able to send an original cartoon, but promising to look for one for the enthusiastic admirer; and a brief TNS, signed in type, apologizing for not being able to locate a particular cartoon. In fine condition, with punch holes to three smaller sheets as well as a few unobtrusive mounting remnants. R&R COA.
