Description

Cummings waxes political: “Our stayathome nonhero was recently astonished to hear ... that I’d attended Pres[ident] & MrsK[ennedy]’s coronation”

TLS, signed “E. E. Cummings” in red pencil, one page, 8.5 x 11, June 3, 1961. An interesting letter to Mr. Kolb. In order to capture Cummings’ inimitable style, the author’s original spelling, capitalization, and punctuation have been retained in the following transcript. In full: “since the May 29th letter would have been most welcome without a mention of eimi [“eimi” underlined], I can’t tell you how welcome it’s with; but in acknowledgment of your largesse am forwarding a copy of a small book published last autumn, & hope you’ll let me know if eventually nothing arrives. Trust never an UNworld--e.g. our stayathome nonhero was recently astonished to hear (from a ‘liberal’ sic official of an ‘educational’ establishment) that I’d attended Pres&MrsK’s coronation: journalism is the enemy, as Rilke observed” In fine condition, with mailing folds and two marginal tape remnants which can be easily matted out. R&R COA.
